Favorites and settings (import / export)
Your favorite SDR receivers (❤️ button) and several display settings are stored in your browser, not in your account. In practice, if you switch browser or computer, or clear your browser data, they do not follow you.
The Favorites & settings menu solves this: it lets you export them to a file, import them elsewhere, and retrieve those from the previous version of the site. It works without an account, including during the demo period.
Open the menu
Section titled “Open the menu”- Click your name (or the menu) at the top right of the map.
- In the My data section, choose Favorites & settings.
A window opens. It shows what this browser contains (for example “12 favorite SDR station(s), 4 saved setting(s)”) and offers three actions:
- Export to a file: saves your data to a file.
- Import from a file…: loads a file exported earlier.
- Import from the previous site (…): retrieves the data of the previous site (see below).
What is saved
Section titled “What is saved”| Included | Details |
|---|---|
| Favorite SDR receivers | The list of your favorite WebSDR, KiwiSDR, OpenWebRX and PhantomSDR receivers |
| Display settings | DX Cluster filters and custom filters, spot display options on the map, spot lifetime, Band Map band, Replay speed, distance unit |
Not included: settings specific to your own computer (OmniRig and Win-Test ports) and everything related to your account (credentials, profile), which you get back by signing in.
The file contains no password and no personal data: only receiver addresses and settings.
Move between browsers or computers
Section titled “Move between browsers or computers”Use this method to go from Chrome to Firefox, to change computer, or to get your data on a phone.
On the old browser or computer
- Open Favorites & settings.
- Click Export to a file.
- A file named
hamdxmap-settings-YYYY-MM-DD.jsonis saved (downloads folder).
Get this file to the other device: USB drive, an e-mail to yourself, online storage, and so on.
On the new browser or computer
- Open HamDXMap, then Favorites & settings.
- Click Import from a file… and pick the file.
- An Import window shows what was found. Tick what you want to retrieve: Favorite SDR stations and/or Display & filter settings.
- Click Import: the map reloads with your data.
Retrieve your favorites from the previous site
Section titled “Retrieve your favorites from the previous site”If you used the previous version of HamDXMap (dxmap.f5uii.net), your favorites are stored there, in the browser you were using. They do not move to hamdxmap.com automatically, but you can retrieve them in a few clicks, with the same browser.
If you arrive from the previous site (bookmark or shared link), a banner appears once at the top of the map:
- Click Retrieve my favorites.
- A small window opens for a few seconds on the previous site, reads your favorites, then closes by itself.
- The Import window appears: check it, then click Import.
If you did not see the banner (or dismissed it), do the same from the menu: My data → Favorites & settings → Import from the previous site…
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| ”Your browser blocked the window” | Allow pop-ups for hamdxmap.com, then try again. |
| ”No answer from the previous site” or “The window was closed before any data was received” | Try again without closing the small window. Check that you are using the same browser as on the previous site. |
| ”No favorites or settings were found to import” | This browser held no favorites on the previous site: try the browser you used at the time. |
| ”This file is not a HamDXMap export” | The file was not produced by Export to a file, or it was modified. Export again. |
| Imported favorites do not appear | In the SDR receivers list, choose the favorites filter and check that the layer is enabled. |
| Favorites vanish each time you close the browser | You are probably in private browsing, or the browser clears its data on exit. Use a normal window. |
